Pigasus Flys High!

From a recent post on YORF, Les showed off just part of his collection -

"Not the complete fleet....
A few weeks ago, Kopernik Observatory held its annual Rocketfest.
I put on a display of some of my rockets
This is about half of my collection from nearly 20 years of builds. Enjoy!"

That's an Odd'l Pigasus on top of all that smoke!

Break-Away For Spot Landing Competition?

An email from John Thompson:

"I really enjoy building your kits.  The Pigasus is primed with white and almost completed.

Myself and Daniel Peirce competed in Open Spot Landing using the break-away kits.  Both worked great. Daniels break-away rocket landed 35 feet from the target and mine landed 22 feet from the target.
It’s a great kit for this event."

Hi John -
It never occurred to me to use the Break-Away kit in a Spot Landing Competition!
You Pigasus looks great - ready for some pink paint and decals! Thanks for writing.

PIGS! And Bigger Pigs!

From the N.A.R. Facebook page:

From Jason Pettler:
"My daughter loves Pigasus so I up scaled it to a 3in
and a 5 1/2 in."

Thanks Jason! Very Impressive.
There have been Odd'l upscales done before but this is the first large Pigasus models I've seen.

A Note on the Pigasus and Little Green Man

No doubt about it -
These are the most popular kits in the Odd'l Rockets lineup.

The kits sell to all age groups, but some are bought by kids.
Younger flyers are attracted to the bright colors and comical design.

That is my concern -
While they may look like an easy build, a 10 year old will need help from a parent or someone with rocketry experience.
Kids typically won't closely follow instructions. They might leave out the nose weight or have trouble gluing the large wings on the pig. If the finish isn't smooth the water slide decals won't adhere well.

If you buy one for a younger flyer, there is a reason it's rated
Skill Level 3.
Just be close by to help with the build.

Pigasus at February 14, NEFAR launch

Here's Cris Morris with her Odd'l Rockets Pigasus at the NEFAR monthly launch on February 14.

Here Pig was launched on pad 6 next to my Little Green Man on pad 7.
The Pigasus put in a good, stable launch with a C6-5.

Thanks Cris! Great job on your Pig!

Nose Cones Have Arrived!

That's 45 Little Green Man and Pigasus nose cones just arrived from Balsa Machining Service.
A little more expensive to produce, they are not a standard diameter or shape.
Now to print instructions, cut tubes, make decals and bag'em up!

Cutting Pigasus Kit Parts

Whoever thought it would be fun to start your own rocketry company has never had to bag up kits!
I don't buy pre-cut tubes, most are 34" long to start and all are cut to size. Even the smallest length tubes are cut by hand.

I'm prepping more Pigasus kits and needed "snouts".
Here's thirty-one noses all cut to 9/16" long. I don't need this many noses right now but I've learned to cut more than you need for the next litter of kits.

More Kits!

It seems like all I bag up now are Pigs and Martians!
These two have been very popular so far, 75 Pigasus kits have gone out since last April.
I know, that doesn't sound like a lot. It's quite a bit for a one man operation.

JonRocket.com got more Pigasus and Little Green Men kits yesterday.
www.apogeerockets.com will get a litter of pigs and a batch of Martians in the mail tomorrow, the first time they will be listing the L.G.M. rockets!
